fear video security
The effectiveness of monitored burglar alarm systems has drastically diminished. Burglars now understand the delay in the Police response time and the fear factor has evaporated. The criminal mind has now determined a simple way around it: cut the PHONE LINE or tear out the control panel off the wall. A proven method of deterrence is video surveillance recording. Burglars don’t want to be identified and have that recorded evidence used against them in a court of law.
the kids around the house
There is no greater fear for a parent other than the compromise of a child's safety within their own home. The 2007 National Retail Security Survey -
again, this year’s report overwhelmingly shows that employee theft is
often the largest cause of inventory shrinkage at retail
organizations. Loss prevention is the largest battle
retailers have to fight, in order to maintain and improve their
business objectives. For every step forward in the fight
against internal and external theft, shoplifters continue to find
advanced methods to steal from their employer or their local retail
pointed out in the report, retailers reported an average of 38.76
employee theft apprehensions and 36.08 employee theft terminations for
every $100 million in sales. Only 11.8 prosecutions were made
for every $100 million in sales, and the average dollar amount per
employee theft incident came out to an astonishing $1,442.67.
Additionally, it should be noted that employees in a position of
management were responsible for a larger percentage of theft than
hourly sales associates, which is why the dollar amount per incident is
so inflated. Managers can typically place themselves in a position to
be able to not only steal from their employer, but steal in bulk.
rates of employee theft continue to climb because those retail
employees that were caught but not prosecuted are then gaining
employment at another retailer where the cycle of employee theft begins
to the 2007 National Retail Security Survey conducted by Dr. Richard
Hollinger at the University of Florida:
• Retailers report an annual inventory shrinkage of $34.8 billion.
• 44% of all inventory shrinkage is attributed to employee theft. This
translates to an employee theft price tag of $15.2 billion.
• The average admitted dollar loss per employee theft incident was a
record $1442.67 which is higher than the 2006 figure of $1,306.59.
• The average dollar loss per shoplifting incident was $344.91.
• 34% of all inventory shrinkage is attributed to shoplifting.
• 15% of all inventory shrinkage is attributed to administrative
& paper error.
• 4% of all inventory shrinkage is attributed to vendor error.
• 3% of all inventory shrinkage is attributed to an unknown error.
• Retailers are forced to pass along these substantial profit losses in
the form of higher product prices.
• The average length of employment for a dishonest worker was 9.53 months before getting caught for dishonesty

Survey: Final Report
BENEFITS OF COMMERCIAL LOSS
Many people are shocked to find out that the number one reason for inventory shrinkage is employee theft. Employees handle your money. Employees handle your products. The temptation to take inventory is just too great for many workers. According to the 2007 National Retail Survey, 44% of your inventory shrinkage is due to employee theft. That translates to $15.2 billion in losses each year for U.S. companies.
When most people think of theft of goods, they think of shoplifting. By far shoplifting gets more publicity, so you hear about it more often. It is a significant problem. It doesn’t always make economical sense to hire more employees to watch your customers. Video surveillance gives you the ability to watch both your customers and employees. 32% of your inventory shrinkage is due to shoplifters. That’s a $10 billion problem in the U.S.
Employee Training Tool
Video systems can be used to monitor employee behavior, not only for inventory loss issues, but for employee training as well.
Store Traffic Feedback
Want to know why some of your products sell better than others? Monitor your store traffic. Find out what your customers see first. Monitoring the flow of traffic in and out of your store will help you decide where to place products for better sales.
Harassment in the workplace can take various forms and not all of it is reported. Complaints about harassment in the workplace are becoming more common. How do you know who’s telling the truth? Video surveillance systems can record both video and audio.
Reduce Insurance Premiums and Taxes
Video observation systems can reduce your insurance premiums. Check with your insurance agent. Video security systems can also protect insurance companies against false claims. Businesses are now allowed to deduct up to $100,000 in equipment purchases. This makes security system purchases 100% tax deductible for many companies.
insurance premiums at one school district:
“these type of losses have nearly disappeared and the district’s insurance premium
has yielded a $700,000 savings.”**
Monitor the outside of your store to help prevent vandalism of your customer’s, employee’s and your personal property. A properly placed security camera can deter many crimes.
The cost of video surveillance has fallen in recent years. In many cases, the cost of one observation system will be far less than the cost of one employee theft. Many home owners are now implementing security cameras in their homes to watch children, the elderly, the swimming pool and more.
Many companies have inventory loss figured into the cost of their goods. With security cameras reducing the amount of inventory shrinkage, companies are free to reduce the cost of their products.

COMMON MYTHS: BUSTED
Cameras are Costly.
BUSTED. The cost of theft nearly always out-weighs the expense of prevention. We believe there isn’t a price you can place on employee safety and your company’s bottom line. In addition, security cameras can save a company money on insurance premiums.
Cameras are Hard to Install.
BUSTED. Plug and play, do-it-yourself, that’s how we describe our products. Installation is often as easy as mounting a camera and running a cable directly from it to a monitor. Some of our wireless packages only require batteries to get started.
Cameras Don’t Deter Theft.
BUSTED. In one example in the UK, where CCTV usage is more widespread, crimes where CCTV systems are not present out number CCTV monitored areas 189-10.
Camera Systems are Hard to Use.
BUSTED. Most basic CCTV systems monitor 1-4 cameras at the same time. Switching between cameras is as easy as pushing a button.
Don’t Need Security Cameras.
BUSTED. In some states, video security systems are required by law. In all states, retail businesses like jewelry stores, women and children’s apparel, drug stores, discount outlets, cards, gifts and novelty stores and home and garden stores have experienced above average inventory loss.
I Don’t Have Inventory, I Don’t Need a Security Camera System.
BUSTED. CCTV systems are used to prevent more crimes than just shoplifting. Companies use security cameras to protect their business from vandalism, prevent property theft by workers, and protect employee and customer property. They can also be used as a training tool.
